Effective 2026-05-19
The short version
Doublet collects almost nothing. The only data that leaves your device is an anonymous identifier that lets the app know which device made a purchase, and the word you tap to look up (sent to Wiktionary so it can return that word's definition). No name, no email, no location, no ads, no analytics, no tracking.
What we collect
- Anonymous device identifier. Firebase Authentication issues a random identifier the first time you open the app. We use it only to record whether this device has purchased the world unlock — so when you reinstall, your purchase restores. The identifier is not linked to any personal information; we don't know who you are.
- Purchase records. If you buy the one-time "Unlock all 10 worlds" in-app purchase, Google Play (or Apple, depending on the platform) records the purchase against the anonymous identifier so we can confirm it on future launches.
- Words you tap for dictionary lookup. When you tap a word to see its definition, Doublet asks Wiktionary for that word's entry. Wiktionary sees the request from your device's IP address — same as any website visit. We don't log these lookups on our side.
What we don't collect
- Your name, email address, phone number, age, or any personal information
- Your location
- Your contacts, calendar, photos, or files
- Analytics or usage tracking (no Google Analytics, no third-party SDKs of that kind)
- Advertising identifiers
- Crash reports tied to you
- The puzzles you've solved or the words you've learned — that lives only on your device's local storage
Where your puzzle progress lives
Solved ladders, partially-filled puzzles, learned-word counts,
dictionary cache, theme preference, language preference — all
of this is stored in your browser's localStorage
on the device you're playing on. None of it is uploaded
anywhere. If you switch devices, your progress doesn't follow
(yet — cloud sync may come in a future release, opt-in).
Third parties Doublet talks to
- Firebase Authentication (Google). Issues the anonymous identifier described above. Google's privacy policy: policies.google.com/privacy
- Wiktionary (Wikimedia Foundation). Receives the word you tap to look up. Wikimedia's privacy policy: foundation.wikimedia.org/wiki/Policy:Privacy_policy
- Google Play Billing (Android) or Apple StoreKit / RevenueCat (iOS). Processes the one-time in-app purchase. We never see your credit card; the store handles that.
Your controls
- Reset everything. Settings → Reset progress wipes all on-device data: solved ladders, partially-filled ladders, learned-word counts, dictionary cache.
- Delete your "account." Doublet doesn't have accounts in the traditional sense. The anonymous Firebase identifier is regenerated each time you reinstall the app, severing any link to past sessions. To explicitly invalidate the identifier on the same install, use Reset Progress.
- Stop playing. Uninstall the app and nothing about you remains on our servers (because almost nothing was there to begin with).
Children
Doublet is not designed for, or directed at, children under 13. We don't knowingly collect data from anyone, but if you are a parent reviewing what the app stores on your child's device, all of it is visible inside the app at Settings → View statistics, and all of it can be wiped at Settings → Reset progress.
Changes to this policy
We'll update this page if the data practices change. The "Effective" date at the top reflects the most recent revision. Substantive changes will be announced in the app's "What's New" release notes.
